Cookies & Storage

UK law (PECR, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, whose data-protection provisions came into force on 5 February 2026) covers anything a website stores on, or reads from, your device: cookies, but also browser “local storage” and similar. This page explains what this site stores, and what it deliberately doesn't.
1. What we store, and why
Everything in the table below is written by the site into your own browser. None of it is a cookie sent to us, none of it tracks you across other websites, and none of it is used for advertising. We do not ask for consent to it because PECR does not require consent for storage that is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for, or that only remembers how you want the site to look and behave. Two things follow from that, and we hold ourselves to both: if you never open the learning tools, nothing is written for them; and if a feature ever needed storage for a purpose of ours rather than yours, it would need your consent and we would ask for it.

Their technical names, for the curious: trx-theme and trx-fs-pct2 (display), totoLang, trx-glang and trx-l10n (language), trx-notice (this notice), tr-snav-hidden and trx-atlas-region (interface state), trx-notes-lv and the Classroom's and games' own progress keys (learning records and games), and trx-ml-<language> (static-language cache). Each is written when you make the choice or take the action it records, not merely because you opened a page. Where PECR asks us to give you a way to object to preference storage, the “Forget my settings” button in the storage notice is it: one click erases everything above, records only your objection (trx-no-store), and reloads the page with its defaults. While that objection stands, the site keeps nothing else on this device and reads nothing back from it: a setting you change lasts only until you leave the page, and no game or learning record is written. To lift it, open “Cookie settings” in the footer and choose “Remember my settings again”.
2. Analytics, advertising and tracking: none
We do not use any analytics, advertising, fingerprinting or cross-site tracking technologies. We don't measure you, and we don't profile you. Nobody here knows how many of you there are, which is either admirable or foolish, depending on your view of publishing.
If that ever changes and we add simple, first-party visitor counting, section 112 of the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, in force since 5 February 2026, exempts certain first-party statistical and functionality storage from the PECR consent requirement, so no consent pop-up would be required. We would still describe it on this page, and give you a free way to refuse it, before switching anything on.
3. Requests to other services
Everything this site needs to display, including its typefaces and language bundles, is served from the site itself. Simply loading a page does not send your details to a third-party content, advertising or translation provider. The pages themselves are delivered by our hosting and content-delivery provider, which necessarily sees the technical request data described in our privacy notice.
Where a link or embedded item takes you to another site (a course provider, a regulator, a podcast), that site sets its own storage under its own policy, which we don't control; so do check theirs.
4. Managing what's stored
You're always in control:
- Use the “Cookie settings” link in the site footer to bring the storage notice back at any time. Its “Forget my settings” button erases everything this site has stored on this device in one click and stops further storage until you choose “Remember my settings again” from the same notice.
- Clear this site's storage in your browser settings to reset every preference above. The site will still work; it'll just forget your choices.
- Your browser's privacy controls can block site storage entirely. Every page, including the learning app, still works; preferences, game progress and learning records then last only for the current page.
